It was an early start in Punta Sal, Honduras- 7 am breakfast, 8am briefing from David, our expedition leader. Guests were divided into English and French speaking groups. David took us through the plan for the day and let us know what we needed to bring/wear.
The expeditions are only revealed in the morning and can change throughout the day depending on weather conditions.
It was a horrendously rainy morning but the plan was still to do a short hike at Jeannette Kawas National Park, followed by a zodiac cruise for some wildlife spotting.
We each got a personal life jacket for the duration of the trip. Just before 9- back to our staterooms, kitted up and off we went.
The hike was beautiful and peaceful despite having to wade through ankle deep water. We discovered water shoes were best to prevent slipping as trainers or hiking boots would have gotten soaked. We spotted howler monkeys swinging through trees and a few different birds. I was hoping to spot a jaguar, but none showed their face today.
Our naturalists and guides were very knowledgeable and ensured everyone was safe.
We then got back on the zodiac and cruised around the peripherals of the mangroves, spotting a few more bird species.
It was at this post the ride got extremely choppy and my seasickness kicked in! We had to wait to re-embark as the swells were too high. Eventually, the ship had to turn around.
Back on board to freshen up for lunch. There are two dining options- the main restaurant with a salad bar and the buffet, both serving high quality food and offered a lot of variety. While my companions had a nice glass of rose, I was still suffering a bit so stuck to water! Gravol was a lifesaver.
We then had a private tour of the Blue Eye (more on this later), and then a dip in the pool since the sun had decided to make an appearance.
Now it’s time to get ready to the Captain’s gala night. Really looking forward to tomorrow as the proposed expeditions look fantastic! Fingers crossed, the weather cooperates.
