Bawah Reserve: The Ultimate Private Island Escape You’ve Been Dreaming Of...

There are island escapes, and then there’s Bawah Reserve, a barefoot-luxury sanctuary that feels like it was plucked straight from your most indulgent daydreams. I recently had the pleasure of experiencing this slice of paradise first-hand, and I can say with complete confidence: it’s every bit as magical as it looks!

I had been anticipating it for quote some time. More precisely, since I head about it back in 2019 on a webinar. The gorgeous setting and their commitment to sustainability being the main draw.

Tucked away in Indonesia’s remote Anambas Archipelago, Bawah is only accessible by seaplane, and that journey alone sets the tone for what’s to come. It is not the easiest place to get to, but the journey is worth it. As you arrive by seaplane, you catch a glimpse of the entire island enveloped by shimmering turquoise water. As I peered out of the window, I was mesmerised!

What makes Bawah so special isn’t just its location. It’s the way luxury and sustainability coexist in perfect harmony. With just 36 suites and a completely remote location, the island feels wonderfully intimate. Whether you're staying in an overwater bungalow, beachfront suite, or tucked into the jungle canopy, you’ll feel immersed in nature without sacrificing a hint of comfort. All rooms are beautifully designed, and I give them top marks for comfort and style. I didn’t even notice there was no TV until after we checked out!

Days unfold slowly here, yet the time passes far too quickly. You can do as little or as much as you like; morning snorkels through coral gardens, paddleboarding between islands, and lazy lunches overlooking the sea. Don’t miss your daily spa treatment. It’s complete bliss. I don’t think I have ever felt so relaxed in my life!

And the service? Thoughtful, attentive, and genuinely warm, with a team that remembers your name, your favourite cocktail, and just how you like your eggs in the morning.

Bawah is perfect for couples seeking connection, solo travellers craving restoration, or small groups and families looking for somewhere truly out of the ordinary. It’s a place to slow down, switch off, and soak up the sort of natural beauty that stays with you long after you’ve left.

If you're ready to treat yourself to something unforgettable or want help planning the kind of escape that dreams are made of, I’d love to share more about my experience and help you make Bawah part of your story.
